The latest edition to the P's and Q's blog is "The Other
Store". We take a look at another store, whether alive or
not, and take a tour! This one is a
very successful
ACME in Doylestown, PA. I took pictures back during the
Premium Fresh & Healthy days, and current, with the
adapted early-styled Quality Built decor. This store
originally started as a Sears when it was built in the
1970's, and transitioned to Acme very soon after. Acme also
had other stores in this area, including a pitched roof
store in Warrington (Now a Sears, ironically), an early
2000's store in Warminster (now closed), an
80's-adapted-90's store in Horsham (still open), and a
standard 90's model in Chalfont (now closed, also). The
Doylestown store is practically the only Acme in the area.
I'm positive this store has gotten almost every single decor
package known to Acme at some point.
Something to note about the outside of this store is that
they have a similar treatment to the facade such as the
closed Limerick,
PA store, of course scaled down, and without the apple
windows.
I will be showcasing the PF&H and QB on a deck style.
Let's get started!

Sorry for the displays covering the foyer decor. I was there on
a very busy day, and Acme had lots of merchandise out for their
4-Day Sale.

Old Wild Harvest section was replaced by an international
section, which according to my phone, I don't have a photo
of... but it's nothing much. The store lost a lot of
character in the Quality Built remodel, even though the PF&H
was as cold and corporate-ish as it can get.

Dairy, Lunchmeat line back of the store around the
bend. A typical 90's ceiling is seen above.

This store finishes out at 16 aisles. Pharmacy is
seen at the end of the aisle, and forms its own set
of 'mini-aisles' in the front.

Back in 2014, when I took these photos, there were
still a few Acme branded products floating around,
including this pallet-sized display of ACME water.

This has to be my favorite spot of the store. The PF&H
curve of the pharmacy fits perfectly with the
cascade of Acme logos that follows it. I
unfortunately don't have a photo of this part of the
store during the PF&H days... I am slowly
cursing at myself because I lost all of these photos
that I can never get back.

A
mashup of PF&H and Quality Built all in one
shot... I wonder how this one aisle marker survived.

A
huge Super Bowl LII display here on my visit back in
January. As Acme is the official supermarket of The
Eagles, I think that they have to do this... and
it's simply awesome. Look at the carpeting! Actual
Astro Turf right there... and I'm not joking when I
say that.
A final look at the PF&H decor package, with a
HUGE Albertsons leaf nearby.
A quick look at the front end. This store has
around 12 registers, 3 being express. No self
checkouts yet, but the store does include a
hefty Frosted Mug in the 90's produce alcove.
